St Catherine's visit the Archbishop of Canterbury

Pupils from St. Catherine’s Primary School in Marlpool Lane had an amazing day in London, on October 14th, when they participated in a service at Westminster Abbey. The pupils had been invited to take part in a service to celebrate 200 years of church schools. The service Address was made by The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr. Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury. It truly was a memorable occasion, made only more memorable as the pupils had the opportunity to meet the Archbishop.

200 years ago on October 16th, Joshua Watson and other leading members of the Church of England, met to found the National Society for the education of the poor. By 1861, there were twelve thousand, free schools, ‘in union’ with the National Society across England and Wales.
